Secondary School Program
All LVUSD schools value a rigorous instructional model where students participate in teacher-directed learning, small group learning, and independent learning. This model allows our instructors to provide individualized support and helps increase engagement while being sensitive to screen time.
Families are partners in their child's learning. To support parents' planning of their home schedules, our Virtual Learning Academy provides a consistent weekly schedule of both independent and interactive virtual instruction for all classes.
Daily Direct Instruction
Daily direct instruction is provided virtually in a developmentally appropriate fashion across the subject areas at the following grade levels. Sixth grade students will receive approximately 60 minutes per class per week of interactive instruction. Our seventh and eighth grade students will receive 65-90 minutes of direct instruction per class per week. High school students will receive between 90-110 weekly interactive minutes depending on the class. In between lessons, students will work on independent projects, literacy activities, and may engage in small group learning.
Multiple Levels of Support
All LVUSD classrooms have responsive teaching to meet our students' unique needs. The Virtual Learning Academy instructors will be available in non-interactive periods to meet one-on-one, provide support, and administer students' assessments.
Student Tutoring & Activities
All students will have daily access to free virtual tutoring sessions across their subject areas to receive supplemental support. Tutors will be LVUSD high school students with stellar academic achievements. Additionally, students will have virtual and in-person access to select events at their home school.
